(VOVworld) - An international conference titled “Economic reforms for inclusive and sustainable growth: international experience and lessons for Vietnam” has opened in Hanoi.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh spoke at the event that the global economic crisis has revealed an important lesson about the need to pursue a sustainable and inclusive growth model. Working towards economic resilience and social and environmental harmony are pressing demands and important for economic recovery nationally and internationally.

Mr. Minh reviewed Vietnam’s major socio-economic achievements in the renewal process and pointed out challenges to establishing Vietnam’s economic position in global development ranking. Minh said: "After nearly 30 years of the renewal process, Vietnam has made significant achievements in its social and economic development. From an under-developed country, Vietnam has become a middle-income one. Apart from its economic targets, Vietnam has paid particular attention to promoting social sectors and has created opportunities for people to engage in socio-economic development activities and enjoy developmental outcomes. The UNDP Human Rights Report 2013 placed Vietnam in the group of 40 countries of highest gains in the human rights index."

Themed “Economic reforms: Challenges for inclusive growth”, the conference includes 3 major sessions themed “Economic reform: challenges for inclusive growth”, “Economic Reforms for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth”, and “Exploiting the potentials of international integration for inclusive and sustainable growth”.
