(VOVworld) - A Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in overcoming the after-effects of bombs and mines in Vietnam was signed in Hanoi on Wednesday. The signatories were the State Steering Committee for the National Action Program on overcoming the post-war aftermaths of bombs and mines, the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) and the International Center of Vietnam Veterans of American Foundation (VVAF). Accordingly, the three sides will provide solutions, policies and consultancy which will help Vietnam effectively implement its National Action Program by 2015.  They will also assist Vietnam in building a quality management system, an information system and other necessary mechanisms which can ensure effective cooperation in this regard. GICHD and VVAF will also support Vietnam in reforming investigation, exploration and destruction activities.

At a meeting with GICHD Director and Ambassador Stephan Husy on Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan said that he hopes that the two sides would strengthen their partnership in overcoming the difficulties posed by unexploded bombs, mines and other ordnances remaining from the war and in designing strategies to best mobilize and manage resources. Vietnam pledged to work closely with GICHD in implementing these programs.
