(VOVworld) - The EU and Vietnam held the sixth round of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in Brussels on Monday. Held at different levels including chief and deputy chief negotiators, the negotiations focused on trade in goods and services, investment, customs co-operation, rules of origin, technical barriers to trade (TBT), sanitary and phytosanitary measures agreement (SPS), competitiveness, sustainable development, and legal issues.

Chief negotiators from both sides, Director in the European Commission’s Directorate General for Trade Mauro Petriccione and his Vietnamese counterpart, Vice Minister for Industry and Trade Tran Quoc Khanh pledged to make effort to complete discussions and stressed their determination to reach a deal soon. They asked experts to accelerate the negotiation pace to complete technical details in issues which their views remained different. Both will continue talking to narrow the gap in other areas.
In the next working sessions, the two chief negotiators will continue discussions to speed up the negotiations, creating a foundation for the completion of the talks as expected.
