Vietnam joins efforts in land mine clearance

(VOVworld) – An expert working group on humanitarian mine action within the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus (ADMM+) will begin their first meeting in Hanoi on June 17.

This will be the first time Vietnam and India to co-organize such an event. Senior Colonel Do Mai Khanh, Deputy Director of Institute for Defense International Relations spoke at a press conference on Thursday: "Within the framework of (ADMM+), this is the first meeting on humanitarian mine action, paving the way to strengthening international cooperation in bomb and mine clearance in Vietnam and other countries. Through the event, the State and organizations would consider providing humanitarian aids to improve the lives of victims of land mine and ordnance. We hope that all delegates will discuss measures to assist Vietnam in bomb and mine clearance."

The 4-day meeting will focus on the ADMM+ expert group’s action plan on humanitarian mine action for the period 2014-2017, consequences of unexploded ordnance left from wars and conflicts between countries. Participants will also share experience and seek cooperation in improving bomb and mine clearance.
