Vietnam, Laos enhance legislative ties
(VOVworld)- A conference on the cooperative relations between the Vietnamese and Laotian National Assemblies closed today/Monday in the northern province of Son La. The delegates discussed ways of boosting cooperation between the two countries, their national assemblies, and border provinces. They approved a Joint Communiqué asserting their determination to consolidate and boost the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos in the near future.

At the closing ceremony, the chairwoman of Laos National Assembly Pany Yathotu praised the conference’s outcomes, and said the event had been an ideal opportunity for both countries to review their special friendship, solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation. The delegates agreed on proposals to adjust existing agreements in line with current conditions to enhance cooperation, trade, and investment. Ms. Yathotu stressed on the importance of disseminating information to help people from both countries understand the valuable traditional ties between Vietnam and Laos. This is especially true after the complex developments in the region and the world. National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung addressed the closing ceremony: "We believe that the conference will significantly contribute to improving the efficiency and quality of bilateral ties between both countries and legislative bodies. The Vietnamese party and state always follow President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings to protect this special bond. We are determined to continue to develop these ties while respecting the independence and sovereignty of each country. As legislative ties play a very important roles in the two countries’ bilateral relationship, we urge both parties to follow the plans set out in the Joint Communiqué to help raise these ties to a new level."
As part of the conference, an exhibition of photographs on Vietnamese-Laos cooperation will open tomorrow/Tuesday in Son La province. A ground breaking ceremony of the construction of a historical site in Laokho hamlet, where many senior Laotian leaders lived and worked during the revolutionary years, will also take place.
