Vietnam promotes human rights protection for sustainable growth

(VOVWORLD) - The UN General Assembly’s Committee for Cultural, Social and Humanitarian Affairs convened on Thursday as part of its 76th session.

In his address, Head of the Vietnamese delegation to the UN, Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy stressed the need to strengthen global unity, promote the production and equal distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, and focus on poverty reduction, education and health care for all people.

Ambassador Quy said human rights protection is for the interests of all countries and constructive, non-confrontation, non-politicalized and unselective dialogues are important. Quy said in addition to non-intervention into other countries’ internal affairs, it’s important to respect others’ territorial integrity and political independence in line with the UN Charter and international law, and respect historical, social, cultural, and development conditions of other countries. Equality must be ensured in exercising the civil, political, economic, social, and development rights.

The Ambassador said promoting and protecting human rights are the top priorities and the ultimate goal of Vietnam’s sustainable development. Vietnam pledges to dialogue and cooperation with UN agencies, special Rapporteurs, and independent experts of the UN Security Council.
