(VOVworld) – Activities have been underway nationwide to mark Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press Day today, June 21st. The northern province of Yen Bai held a get-together for journalists from central and local media agencies presenting the province’s 2012 press award. Yen Bai leaders celebrated media agencies operating in the locality for their contributions to the province’s renewal process.
At a similar meeting in Hung Yen province, participants commemorated the 87th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press. Along with the establishment of the country’s press, Hung Yen’s media has flourished in all fields, developing modern new media such as the print, radio, television, and online news-sites.
On this occasion, Nguyen The Ky, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee Commission for Education and Communication spoke of the development of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press during the country’s renewal process ‘Over the past 20 years of the country’s renewal process, Vietnam’s revolutionary press has developed strongly in terms of the number of media agencies, journalists, and the integrated ability of multi-media. Contributions of the domestic media have been acknowledged by the Party and Government. It might be hard to compare Vietnam’s press with that of other countries in the region as Vietnam’s press is a revolutionary one, a press for the people and by the people. More than 35% of the population has used the Internet. This is the highest index in the Southeast Asia and Asia as a whole’.
Ky said that in the context of the information boom, Vietnam’s revolutionary press should continuously update information to serve readers both at home and abroad.
