This is part of a program to supervise combative efforts against climate change in the Mekong Delta provinces and cities. The participants agreed that the promulgation of a number of legal documents over the past years has helped make Vietnam’s measures to respond to climate change more effective and practical. Vietnam is truly involved with environmental protection through forestation, dealing with pollution problems at craft villages and new rural development. This effort partly helps mitigate the worst impacts of natural disasters and extreme weather on people. Phan Xuan Dung is a member of the National Assembly Committee for Science, Technology and Environment: "Vietnam has designed a program aimed at actively dealing with climate change, natural disasters and the green house effect by 2020. The program is also focused on reducing environmental pollution, the degradation of biodiversity and maintaining an ecological balance. It is necessary to be pro- active in order to prevent and limit the impacts of flood-tides, salinity caused by sea level rises, especially in the Mekong River Delta, Red River Delta and Central coastal areas".

The participants pointed out the need to complete mechanisms and policies of support in terms of land and credits to further develop renewable and new energies to deal with climate change in the future.
