Workshop to preserve and promote the value of Ha Long Bay
(VOVworld) - Quang Ninh province today hosted an international workshop that aims to preserve, promote, and honor the value of the world natural heritage Ha Long Bay to make it Vietnam’s tourism trademark. Entitled “Preserving and promoting the value of world natural heritage Ha Long Bay - new vision”, the workshop brought together 150 domestic and international representatives, especially tourism professionals. General Director Nguyễn Văn Tuấn of the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism spoke at the event: "
Our discussion focuses on four main issues: defining the role and position of the world new wonder Halong Bay in the new context toward the Vietnam Tourism Development Strategy until 2020 and vision for 2030, specifying opportunities and challenges in preserving and promoting the value of Halong Bay, proposing solutions for conservation, management, and trademark development, and adopting a framework for action plans for tourism development of Ha Long in the upcoming period."
Halong Bay welcomed last year over 5.5 million tourists, among whom 2.3 million were from abroad. But a lot of difficulties are emerging that put pressure on the heritage site’s sustainable development. Director Hà Quang Long of the Quang Ninh Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism said:
"The workshop is to collect initiatives, assessments, and scientific study to build up an overall plan for Quang Ninh province’s socio-economic development. Our provincial authorities highly appreciate the seminar’s role and are parcularly interested in ways to enhance the state and local management at tourism hot spots to ensure a sound, modernized, and consistent tourism business environment."
