Fishermen in Thua Thien Hue set sail for first voyage of lunar new year

(VOVWORLD) - These days, fishermen in Thua Thien Hue province have set sail for the first trip of the lunar new year, with the belief that they will catch a lot of seafood.

Tran Van Hai, from Tan Binh village, Thuan An ward, Hue city, said: “Our villagers’ first trip to the sea has so far been good with favorable weather and wind. The trip will last 15 to 20 days. The first voyage will bring good results for the fishermen, who work to catch seafood and participate in protecting our homeland's islands and seas.”

Thua Thien Hue province currently has more than 680 fishing boats.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh Binh, Director of the provincial Fisheries Sub-department, said: “Some localities have held rituals to pray for a fruitful year of fishing. Offshore fishing contributes to consolidating national security and defense at sea. We make sure that fishermen follow regulations on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.”

Last year, Thua Thien Hue province's seafood output reached 61,000 tons. This year, it aims to catch 62,000 tons of seafood.
