During the session, fishermen were briefed on Vietnam’s legal provisions for offshore fishing, designated fishing zones, regulations of neighboring countries, and relevant international conventions.

Major Nguyen Huu Nghi, Political Commissar of Cat Khanh Border Guard Station, said: “We met fishermen directly at the ports, explained the relevant legal documents, and guided them to access these materials via QR codes. We also helped them complete required procedures and paperwork before departure in accordance with the law.”

Gia Lai province has established a Steering Committee for IUU Fishing Prevention, headed by the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee. The committee has tightened the management of unregistered or uncertified vessels, vessels operating without valid fishing licenses, and those with expired certificates.

It has also implemented round-the-clock monitoring via vessel monitoring systems (VMS) to prevent unverified ships from leaving port, while intensifying inspections to ensure transparent seafood traceability.
