Tra Vinh hosts sea worshipping festival

(VOVWORLD) - The My Long sea worshipping festival opened in My Long town, Tra Vinh province on Tuesday.

The festival, also called Nghinh Ong, is held from the 10th to the 12th day of the fifth lunar month every year in Cau Ngang district, to express thanks to the sea god and pray for good weather and bumper fish hauls.

In 2013, the festival was recognized as a national intangible heritage.

During this year’s festival, many sports and cultural activities, folk games, showcases of local specialties, amateur southern singing and exhibition featuring the festival were held.

Lam Huu Phuc, Deputy Director of the Tra Vinh provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said: "The My Long sea worshipping festival embodies typical cultural characteristics of local fishermen. With its multiple interesting activities, the festival draws visitors near and far."
