Fishermen have a bumper harvest

Ships full of fish, squid, and shrimp returning to Vam Lang just before Tet are good news for local fishermen and their families. After a month at sea, the Vam Lang fishing fleet returned home with 3 tons of squid, worth 2500 USD in profit for each vessel. Thanks to this bonaza, Huynh Van Sach enjoyed a comfortable and happy lunar New Year holiday. Mr. Sach said: "We’re very happy this spring. We hope to have more big catches this year." Tran Van Thu, who owns 4 small fishing vessels in Vam Lang, said: "Thanks to favorable weather conditions, we had a good haul and are very excited to welcome the New Lunar Year."
Vam Lang is home to more than 500 households involved in the fishing industry. Every year fishermen from Vam Lang provide the markets with more than 20,000 tons of seafood. The trade has brought a comfortable living to the locals, whose average annual income is 1000 USD per person. Chairman of the Vam Lang People’s Committee Le Quang Vinh puts it: "We have seen remarkable economic achievements in recent years. Ship owners in Vam Lang have had consecutive big catches recently and there are many emerging billionaires from this trade".
