First published in 1877, Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, regarded as one of literature’s greatest works of realist fiction, tells the tragic story of a noblewoman trapped between social conventions and her yearning for love and freedom.
In his celebrated ballet adaptation, choreographer Boris Eifman narrows the focus to the love triangle between Anna Karenina, her husband Alexey Karenin, and her lover Count Vronsky—dramatizing Anna’s struggle between passion and duty through the language of dance—but preserves the novel’s tragic ending.
The production features a cast of 108 dancers, including top Russian artists. The Eifman Ballet has received numerous accolades, including the Golden Mask, the Golden Soffit, and official honors from the Russian government and President for Anna Karenina. All seven performances in Vietnam will be the full two-hour version staged in Saint Petersburg.
