Japan, Taiwan (China), and South Korea are Vietnam’s three largest labor export markets. They receive over 90% of overseas Vietnamese workers each year. Some markets, including China, Singapore, and Hungary, have received an increasing number of Vietnamese workers.

Nguyen Nhu Tuan, Deputy Head of the Communication Department of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs, said: “We aim to send 125,000 workers abroad under contract this year. Our main markets are Japan, Taiwan (China) and South Korea. We’ll also try to send more workers to other markets.”

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs said that improving the quality of Vietnamese workers is a key task. While stabilizing and maintaining existing markets, the Ministry will expand to high-income markets which match the qualifications and skills of Vietnamese workers.

The Ministry will also strengthen communications and help businesses prepare labor resources and improve workers’ skills and foreign languages.

Nguyen Ba Hoan, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, said: “When sending workers abroad, the first goal is to improve their qualifications. The Overseas Labor Center coordinates with the Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs to inform people of the rights, responsibilities, and obligations of both workers and state management agencies.”

Vietnam has approximately 500 enterprises eligible to send workers to work in 40 countries and territories. Each year Vietnam sends 120,000 to 143,000 workers abroad, who send home remittances worth 3.5 to 4 billion USD annually.
