Anti-violence against children strengthened in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - Violence against children and child abuse are global issues. Over the past few years, Vietnam has strengthened efforts to raise awareness about the protection of and responsibility for children.

Bac Kan province’s Center for Legal Assistance provides legal assistance for children, especially child victims of violence and abuse. Bac Ninh province has regularly published information and strengthened efforts to make school safer. Can Tho city has set up a child abuse hotline providing advice and assistance. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha from Dak Nong province attended the 2017 National Children’s Forum: “In villages, a number workshops were held to teach us how to protect ourselves from violence and abuse. For example, we learned self-defense skills and when to raise your voices. Those skills are crucial for children to protect themselves”

Classes to support child victims of violence and abuse have been organized. A campaign to disseminate information about violence against children and child abuse drew a strong response from the public. Following an Action Month for Children and a number of local Children’s Forums, a National Children’s Forum was held in Hanoi this week. Dang Hoa Nam is Director of the Child Department of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs: “We collect children’s opinions and send them to local authorities and agencies. The Prime Minister has directed Chairmen of provincial and municipal People’s Committees to take charge of dealing with child abuse cases.”
