Nguyen Hung Anh, Director of the Anti-smuggling Investigation Department under the General Department of Vietnam Customs, said that during the COVID-19 pandemic smuggling has not diminished. It is difficult for agencies to prevent smuggling in border areas.
“The Customs agency wants mechanisms and policies on the origin of goods fine-tuned to create a legal foundation for law enforcement. We have designed plans to combat smuggling, strengthened communications on laws and regulations concerning the origin of goods, and collected data on fraud and contraband goods to protect the rights of businesses and consumers,” Anh said.
Nguyen Duc Le, Deputy Head of the Market Surveillance Profession Department of the Vietnam Directorate Market Surveillance, said: “The Vietnam Directorate Market Surveillance has formed e-commerce task forces to detect ways people take advantage of social networks to make illegal profits. The market surveillance force must closely coordinate with the National Steering Committee to combat smuggling, counterfeiting, and fraud on e-commerce platforms.”
Protecting consumers is the responsibility of the whole society. It creates a healthier business environment and promotes economic development.
