The Dong Da mound festival is a traditional spring festival held at the Dong Da mound, a tourist site located on Tay Son street in Dong Da district, Hanoi. This place witnessed the glorious victory of the Vietnamese people over 290,000 Chinese Qing invaders in 1789. In that battle, Emperor Quang Trung led his troops to the north to wrest back national independence.
Every year, on the fifth day of Lunar New Year, local residents and visitors gather at the festival from early morning.
"The Dong Da Mound Festival includes both ceremonial rituals and festive activities, attracting a large crowd," said Ha Quang, a resident of Dong Da district.
The ceremonial rituals begin at 6:00 a.m., featuring incense offerings and a palanquin procession.
The festival follows with a drum performance at the foot of Emperor Quang Trung's statue and the recital of the epic about the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory.

Actor Vu Manh Linh of the Vietnam Tuong (classical opera) Theatre, said, "I’m honored and delighted to portray Emperor Quang Trung, a national hero. This role gives me the opportunity to deliver a meaningful performance to the audience."
Around the Dong Da mound, folk games, human chess, and Chinese chess competitions are held, along with water puppetry shows, Quan ho folk singing, Chau Van (ceremonial) singing, and excerpts from Tuong plays, all celebrate the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory.
Vu Thi Thanh Huong, Head of the Dong Da Cultural Park Management Board, said, "All the performances embrace elements of modern art, while preserving traditional customs."
The Dong Da mound festival is an annual event that inspires patriotism, solidarity, and national pride.
