Eco Event advocates waste recycling

(VOVWORLD) - Residents in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, and Binh Duong are being encouraged to exchange beer cans, unused books, milk cartons, and straws for attractive gifts. This initiative is part of Eco Event 2024, organized by the environmental organization Tagom in collaboration with six AEON Mall shopping centers nationwide. It aims to promote waste sorting at the source, waste recycling, and environmental awareness.

Among the early participants at AEON Mall were Phuong Anh, Minh Thu, and Minh Truong, who brought plastic bottles, cans, and milk cartons to join the "Green Living - Green Future" festival. In addition to exchanging recyclables for gifts, they attended workshops on waste recycling and sorting.

The participants said:

"This program taught me how to sort waste and understand the environmental impact of plastic waste."

"I’ll tell others how to sort paper, organic waste, and inorganic waste and identify recyclable paper types."

"This event shows people how to sort waste and gives them a better understanding of the importance of waste sorting."

The event has attracted many housewives and office workers. Nguyen Thi Trang from Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi, said she would like to see a larger-scale program, adding that she wished this were nationwide so people in remote areas could also participate.

Vu Thi Thom, a member of Tagom, said the group will sort the collected materials and send them to recycling businesses.

"Tagom's main goal is to teach people how to sort waste at home. We also collect money to support children in remote areas," said Thom.

By promoting waste sorting, recycling, and environmental awareness through Eco Event 2024, the initiative seeks to conserve resources and reduce environmental pollution.
