A view of Quang Ninh province

Quang Ninh province has 122 FDI projects initiated by 18 countries and territories with total registered capital of 6 billion USD. 70 of the projects are 100% FDI. In recent years, Japan has been one of the top investors in Vietnam and particularly in Quang Ninh province. Major projects include a 13-billion USD infrastructure project at Texhong-Hai Ha industrial park, a 9-billion USD project to supply water to Texhong-Hai Ha industrial park, and a “Green Growth” project to promote tourism and reduce marine pollution in Ha Long Bay.

Norihiko Inoue, chief consultant for the “Green Growth” project, said: “We intend to make Quang Ninh greener and more beautiful. I believe JICA will work with Vietnam’s agencies and sectors to support the project. Our aim is long-term, not just during the project’s 3 years. JICA has funded many environmental projects, and this project is an important one.”

Quang Ninh province has attracted 86 million USD of FDI since the beginning of the year and has issued investment licenses to 6 projects worth 56 million USD. FDI projects have generated 26,000 jobs. The province has worked out key strategies to improve its investment environment and support businesses. Hoang Danh Son, Deputy Director of Quang Ninh’s provincial Department of Planning and Investment, says:  “Quang Ninh province will push ahead with administrative reforms such as building an e-administration at the provincial and local level. The province has established public administrative center. It has focused on human resource development and helped businesses recruit suitable employees.”

Six to eight projects worth about 500 million USD are waiting for investment licenses in Quang Ninh, and several others are planning to increase their capital.
