Ho Chi Minh City National University aims to rank as one of Asia’s best universities

(VOVworld) – Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City was listed among the top 150 universities in Asia by the QS university rankings in June.  The university is also the first educational facility in Vietnam to apply the University City model.

Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City comprises of 6 institutions: the University of Technology, the University of Science, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Information Technology, the University of Economics and Law, and the Institute of Environment and Natural Resources, plus 30 affiliate agencies. The university employs 5,700 people, serving 60,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. On Vietnamese Teachers’ Day on November 20, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited the university, where he praised its University City model, the first of its kind in Vietnam. He pointed out other tasks to be undertaken: “Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City should nurture start-up dreams and create a generation of business people, technocrats, culturists, scientists, and other prominent figures, who will make Vietnamese education famous during the 4th industrial revolution. The university should help generate jobs and lead start-up campaigns for national development.”

Prime Minister Phuc encouraged private investment in the university and international cooperation to improve the quality of teaching and research. He said: “You should be more daring and proactive, communicating more with friends and teachers, participating in community activities, and interning with companies to gain experience. You should master a foreign language, which is a key to gaining the broad knowledge that you and society need.”

Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City is being refashioned as a modern University City on an area of 640ha with 53,000 beds, at the north-eastern edge of Ho Chi Minh City.
