International Rice Festival 2023 opens in Hau Giang province

(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnam-Hau Giang International Rice Festival 2023 opened on Monday. This is the first time the rice festival has been organized at the international level as part of Vietnam's effort to develop a new rice industry and strive to become a Food Innovation Center in the region.

The theme of the festival in Hau Giang province’s Vi Thanh city is “Green Rice for Life”. More than 200 delegates will attend conferences and seminars to share their experience in rice production.

Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Dong Van Thanh said: "The festival draws both domestic and foreign delegates who will share their experience in rice production. We’re proud to hold this event in our province and consider it a great responsibility."

The festival introduces a wide range of rice products, rice dishes, and rice production equipment.

At the event, the Prime Minister will announce the approval of a project to develop one million hectares of high-quality, low-carbon rice by 2030 to contribute to green growth in the Mekong Delta. The project demonstrates the Vietnamese Government’s commitment at COP26 in the UK in 2021 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Hoang Trung, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: "This is an opportunity for farmers and businesses to learn more about the many achievements we have recorded over the past few years. The progress has been recognized by the world community and contributes to Vietnam's economic development."

The festival aims to promote high-quality rice production and the organic rice value chain, as well as food security and climate change adaptation in the Mekong Delta.
