(VOVWORLD) - Every year, as the Lunar New Year (Tet) approaches, Vietnam's political system, from the central to local levels, mobilizes efforts to care for poor and disadvantaged people. This reflects the Party and State’s consistent policy of "leaving no one without Tet" and "leaving no one behind" aiming to bring a warm and meaningful Tet to disadvantaged groups.

Tet for everyone, every family
Ahead of Tet, the Vietnam Red Cross Society has organized "Compassionate Tet Markets" across the country, supported by businesses, philanthropists, and the broader community. These markets offer essential Tet items, gifts, and zero-dong vouchers to the poor, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups. These initiatives have fostered a sense of community, spreading love and support while adding joy to the festive season.
The recipients share their joy at receiving the gifts.
"These Tet gifts, including fish sauce, seasoning, and sugar, are very meaningful. They help ease the burden for our families. I hope to receive such gifts every year."
"Glass noodles, sticky rice, and candy – with these zero-dong gifts, we won't need to shop for Tet anymore. This support ensures a comfortable and happy Tet for us."
The "Compassionate Tet Market" is part of the broader "Compassionate Tet – Spring 2025" campaign, led by the Vietnam Red Cross Society, to help 1.2 million poor and disadvantaged people during the Lunar New Year 2025.

Bui Thi Hoa, President of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, said: "We hope to support disadvantaged people based on their actual needs. The Compassionate Tet movement is not just about giving material gifts but also about creating a festive atmosphere where everyone, regardless of their circumstances, can experience the full flavor of Tet and feel the sharing of the community."
The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and labor federations at all levels have implemented various programs to support union members and workers, especially those in need. Under the theme "Tet Reunion – Spring of Gratitude for the Party," activities like the "Trade Union Tet Market," "Trade Union Train – Spring 2025," and "Trade Union Flight – Spring 2025" have been organized to ensure all workers can celebrate Tet with joy and fulfillment.
"I am very happy and grateful for the care and attention from the trade union. This support motivates us to start the new year with more enthusiasm and strive harder throughout the year."
"I was deeply moved to receive gifts from trade unions at all levels this year. I also received financial support, discount vouchers, and assistance for my journey home to celebrate Tet."
Mobilizing the entire system to ensure Tet for the disadvantaged
In its Directive on organizing the Lunar New Year 2025, the Party Central Committee's Secretariat asks for the effective implementation of social security and welfare policies and for special care for the material and spiritual life of people, especially those in difficult circumstances, poor households, people in disaster-affected areas, remote and border regions, ethnic minority communities, and the unemployed.
While visiting and extending New Year greetings in Kien Giang province, President Luong Cuong said: "It is essential to thoroughly implement guidelines and policies from the Party, Government, and various sectors regarding Lunar New Year preparations to ensure that every family enjoys a joyful Tet, with no one left behind. Additionally, Tet celebrations should be organized thoughtfully, safely, and meaningfully."
Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs Nguyen Van Hoi said: “Most localities have launched programs to ensure a happy Tet for social protection beneficiaries and poor people, giving gifts worth an average value of 12 USD. In Ho Chi Minh City, gifts are higher at 45 USD per household with many other provinces and cities also exceeding the average level. The Prime Minister has allocated 7,500 tons of rice to aid nearly 500,000 people affected by natural disasters, floods, and poor and near poor ethnic minority people. The total expenditure to ensure social security during Tet is estimated at approximately 394 million USD.”
All these efforts showcase the Party and State’s dedication to social security and the community's unwavering spirit of national unity.
