The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed the lives of nearly 3,500 people in Binh Duong, leaving 200 children orphaned. To share their difficulties and encourage them to overcome their pain, Binh Duong province’s Labor Federation and Women's Union have raised funds to sponsor the children.

The Labor Federation has given savings books to 148 children whose parents died of COVID-19. A savings book worth 400 USD was given to children who lost one parent 800 USD if they lost both parents.

Recently, Medic Binh Duong Hospital signed a memorandum of understanding with the Binh Duong Labor Federation to provide free medical examinations and treatment for 148 children orphaned by COVID-19 until they are 18 years old.

Tran Ngoc Hien, the hospital’s CEO, said the children will not only receive free health care at his hospital, but if they need to be transferred to another hospital, his hospital will continue to support them.

"The staff and doctors here feel for these orphaned children. It’s really heartbreaking, because they have lost the parents who were supposed to take care of them. Medic Binh Duong Hospital has decided to help the children in the hope that they will stay healthy, get an education, and become useful to their families and society,' said Hien.

Between now and the Lunar New Year, Binh Duong province will be holding more programs for children orphaned by COVID-19.
