Throughout its history, Vietnam has gone through several harsh struggles for national independence. Therefore, Vietnam is well aware of the values of peace in people’s lives and national development.

The Vietnamese Party, State and army’s determination to contribute to world peace and stability is reflected in Article 65 of the 2013 Constitution which stipulates that the armed forces are responsible for working closely with the entire population to improve the country and implement international obligations.

So far, 170 Vietnamese military officials and officers have participated in the UN international peacekeeping mission and have helped raise Vietnam’s prestige and voice in addressing international issues. They have created favorable conditions for Vietnam to boost its relation with other countries and partners and have raised the prestige of the Vietnamese armed forces, enhanced Vietnam’s international cooperation in national defense and security, strengthened research and strategic forecasts, and improved officials’ capacity in participating in UN peacekeeping activities.

Vietnam’s participation in the UN peacekeeping mission has also contributed to realizing Vietnam’s policy for defending the nation early and from afar with peaceful measures, has boosted Vietnam’s people-to-people diplomacy, and demonstrated the image of Vietnam as a responsible member of the international community, maintaining peace and settling crises. The mission has also strengthened international friends’ trust in Vietnam.

Vietnam’s participation in the UN peacekeeping mission reflects the foreign policy of multilateral policies and diversification of international relations and Vietnam’s reformist mindset in international integration and national defense strategy.  It also affirms Vietnam’s foreign policy with respect for UN goals and mottos to promote sustainable peace.

It is also part of Vietnam’s commitment to fulfill its obligation as a UN member in line with the UN Charter. Vietnam does not intervene in other countries’ internal affairs and always acts as a responsible member of the international community, wishing to contribute to world peace.

Vietnamese blue-beret soldiers display of dedication and responsibility at the UN has contributed to a positive image of Vietnam’s land and people.
