Voice of Vietnam: 80 years with the nation
(VOVWORLD) - At the exhibition “80 Years of Independence – Freedom – Happiness” at the newly inaugurated Vietnam Exposition Center in Hanoi, the Voice of Vietnam unveils a unique display that not only preserves valuable documents and artifacts but also narrates the broadcaster’s 80-year journey alongside the nation’s development.
VOV’s pavilion, part of the exhibition “80 Years of Independence – Freedom – Happiness” at the Vietnam Exposition Center, showcases many precious artifacts, enhanced with modern technology and bilingual captions. |
This is one of many activities marking 80 years of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2), and VOV’s 80th founding anniversary (September 7). |
Over the past 80 years, the Voice of Vietnam has grown into a strong multimedia organization. |
On display are many technical equipment, including the 300W transmitter that broadcast the Declaration of Independence live from Ba Dinh Square on September 2, 1945. |
This is the transmitter that carried the surrender announcement of Duong Van Minh, President of the Republic of Vietnam, at noon on April 30, 1975. |
One of the artifacts attracting great public attention is the historic 500W loudspeaker once installed on the northern bank of the Ben Hai river in Quang Tri province. |
The loudspeaker, riddled with bullet holes, stands as a vivid testament to the “war of sound” at the 17th parallel. A veteran said: “Looking at this loudspeaker, full of wartime ‘wounds’, is like seeing my comrades, who fought by my side.” |
A child curiously examines the bullet holes on the loudspeaker. |
The highlight is the virtual reality (VR) experience zone, where visitors can travel back in time to Ba Dinh Square on September 2, 1945, when President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. |
Visitors also have the opportunity to listen to archival recordings of historic radio programs. |
The combination of historical values and modern technology demonstrates VOV’s efforts to renew its methods of storytelling. |
The exhibition space also recreates the model of Tram Cave in Hanoi, VOV’s first evacuation site and the place from which President Ho Chi Minh’s Appeal for National Resistance was broadcast on December 19, 1946. |
Children eagerly enjoy the experience of acting as radio hosts. |
VOV’s exhibition space will open until September 15, 2025, at the Vietnam Exposition Center (VEC), in Co Loa, Dong Anh, Hanoi. |
