210 million USD invested in Mekong Delta water resources project

(VOVworld) - Irrigation systems in the Mekong Delta region have been funded in recent years by many sources of capital, including ODA, government bonds, state budgets, and private contributions. These irrigation systems have greatly improved water usage in the Mekong Delta, boosting profits from agricultural production, raising local living standards, and improving climate change resilience.

According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, irrigation projects between 2011 and 2016 had a total capital investment of more than 700 million USD. At a workshop in Can Tho city Tuesday on water resources management in the Mekong Delta, Deputy Minister Hoang Van Thang said that while recent many irrigation projects in the province have proven effective, there are still some inadequacies in dredging irrigation systems. Thang said: “At this workshop, many ideas will be collected from which to build a strategic frame and master plan for effective irrigation works in the region. There is also cooperation between Vietnamese and Polish enterprises will develop highly-professional systems that will help resolve the big issues of the Mekong Delta region.”
