22 new domestic infections recorded Sunday noon

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam confirmed 22 new local cases of COVID-19 Sunday noon, bringing the total count of domestic infections since the morning to 53.   

11 of the new cases are in Bac Giang, 3 in Hai Duong, 7 in Hanoi's locked down K Hospital and 1 in Da Nang.

All the cases in Hai Duong, K Hospital, and Da Nang had contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients. The cases in Bac Giang are linked to the Quang Chau and Van Trung industrial parks, 2 coronavirus hotspots.

On Sunday morning, Vietnam confirmed its 42nd coronavirus death.

The deceased patient is a 72-year-old woman who was admitted to Hanoi's National Hospital for Tropical Diseases on April 30 for COPD and hypertension treatment, according to the Ministry of Health.

On May 4, she tested positive for coronavirus and was put on ventilators and ECMO. 

Her causes of death were pneumonia due to COVID-19 and multiple organ failure.

Since the COIVD-19 re-emerged in Vietnam on April 27, the nation has recorded 2,089 cases in 30 cities and provinces. 

Vietnam has so far confirmed 5,141 cases including 2,721 recoveries and 42 deaths.

More than a million people in the country have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
