4 ASEAN members to discuss accelerating ASEAN connectivity

Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines will hold discussions on the ASEAN Connectivity Plan on Thursday within the framework of the 22nd ASEAN Summit in Bandar Seri Begawan. The program, entitled the 9th Brunei- Indonesia- Malaysia – Philippine East ASEAN Growth Area, will foster economic integration between the 4 countries as part of efforts to make ASEAN an institution like the European Union by 2015. Leaders of the four countries will discuss speeding up the implementation of regional infrastructure projects, especially in transportation, energy, trading, and IT. It is estimated by Private Equity International that ASEAN will need approximately 1 trillion USD over the next 7 years to reach its infrastructure targets.
