Chairman of Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission (IEC) Ahmad Yousuf Nouristani said the results, originally to be released on Wednesday, had been delayed so that the IEC could examine the 1,930 polling stations to assure the accuracy of the votes.

Afghanistan held a second round of voting on June 14th because no candidate – neither former Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah nor ex-World Bank economist Ashraf Ghani - won an absolute majority in the first round. Abdullah Abdullah has accused the IEC to being on Ashraf Ghani’s side and has asked for the vote to be nullified.
