(VOVWORLD) - WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters on Thursday that all nations need to make sure their medical systems are ready to cope with Covid-19 outbreaks.

He said the world is at a decisive point and countries must act “swiftly” and “aggressively” to contain the virus.

The Italian Civil Protection Department reported 2 more deaths from Covid-19, bringing total fatalities in Italy to 14. So far more than 450 people in Italy have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The Greek Health Ministry confirmed 2 new cases in the past 24 hours. Greece has cancelled all its annual carnival festivities that were planned for this weekend.

Malaysia confirmed one new Covid-19 case – a 53-year-old Malaysian woman who recently travelled to Japan - bringing Malaysia's total to 23.

Lebanon confirmed its third coronavirus case after a man arriving from Iran on Monday tested positive.

The UK confirmed two more sufferers, bringing the total number of cases in the UK to 15.

French Health Minister Olivier Veran said the number of recorded cases of coronavirus in France has jumped from 18 to 38 in just 24 hours.

The Netherlands confirmed its first case of Covid-19 on Thursday.

China’s Health Commission said 44 people died from the disease on Thursday, bringing the total number of deaths in China to 2,788.
