ASEAN + 3 vow to combat crime

(VOV) - A Vietnamese delegation led by General Tran Dai Quang, Minister of Public Security, attended the sixth ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime Plus Three (AMMTC + 3) in Vientiane on Wednesday. Participants reviewed the outcomes of their previous meeting in Bali, Indonesia, and expressed their satisfaction with recent cooperation between the countries. They pledged their determination to work together to ensure stability and development and prevent trans-national crimes such as human trafficking, arms smuggling, sea piracy, illegal immigration, economic crime, drug-related crime, and cybercrime.

They underlined the need to increase information exchange and training to enable effective collaboration in reducing transnational crimes, making the ASEAN community a more peaceful and prosperous place.

Speaking at the event, General Tran Dai Quang highlighted Vietnam’s close cooperation with the law enforcement agencies of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea in implementing commitments between ASEAN and the three dialogue countries in the fight against transnational crimes.

He spoke highly of the three countries’ support for fighting crime and coping with non-traditional security challenges emerging in the region and the wider world. He expressed his hope that cooperative commitments approved at the meeting will be actively implemented so as to make a breakthrough in the fight.
