The annual event is initiated by the European Union and the seven members of the Danube - Mekong Cooperation Initiative, namely Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam. This year’s event is expected to attract around 180 delegates from 53 ASEM members, and regional and international organizations. They will exchange views on water resources in the Post-2015 Development Agenda, share experience in ensuring water resources, food and energy security, and improving water management in urban areas. Vietnam’s hosting of this ASEM conference promotes its position in ASEM, contributing to the forum’s efforts to protect water resources. The event also promotes the role of co-initiator to strengthen the Danube-Mekong cooperation mechanism in the framework of ASEM dialogue on sustainable development, mobilizes support from ASEM members in water resources and Mekong cooperation, and pushes forward the Ben Tre - Tulcea project in the framework of the ASEM Danube-Mekong cooperation plan.
