Answering reporters’ question about the visit’s purpose, spokesman for the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry, Le Hai Binh, said that the visit was aimed at seeking measures to ease the current situation, prevent the reoccurrence of the tense incidents that happened recently, and boost relations between the two Parties and governments in a healthy, long-lasting, and stable manner, meeting the aspirations and interests of their people.

He also answered a question on how Vietnam had settled the impact of the social disturbances in some localities in mid-May against some foreign-invested enterprises, including those from China. Mr. Binh said the Vietnamese side regretted that the incident occurred against foreign businesses and workers in May. He expressed sorrow that a number of Chinese workers lost their lives or were injured during the incident. Vietnam has rolled and will continue to roll out humanitarian support for the Chinese workers affected, he said, adding that the Vietnam-China Friendship Association will send a working team to China to visit the families of the victims.

The Vietnamese side has implemented the government’s announced support policies for enterprises to overcome difficulties and resume their normal operations. Mr. Binh also said that Vietnam has been investigating the case seriously and strictly punished law breakers, while carrying out necessary measures to ensure security and safety for workers and enterprises from China and other countries.
