Speaking at a meeting on Monday with State Treasurer of California Fiona Ma, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh said California plays an important role in the Vietnam-US relationship.

Ms. Ma said California and Vietnam should continue to use their similar potentials to promote cooperation in multiple fields.

At a meeting with Senator Josh Becker, who is Chair of the Senate Committee on Energy, Utilities, and Communications, Ms. Thanh said Vietnam considers the US a partner of strategic importance and wants to work closely with the US to effectively advance their comprehensive strategic partnership, particularly in locality-to-locality ties such as with California.

Mr. Becker voiced strong support for closer California-Vietnam relations, particularly through parliamentary channels.

The same day, Ms. Thanh met with a number of overseas Vietnamese intellectuals and businessmen in California.
