According to a joint declaration signed by the two leaders in Shanghai on Tuesday, the two countries will expand cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), to fight terrorism, separatism, extremism, arms trafficking, illegal drug trade, organized cross-border crime, and international information piracy. Both sides agreed that the SCO's priority is to promote regional economic cooperation, improve the investment environment in its member states and strengthen exchanges between industrial sectors. The establishment of a Eurasian Union, scheduled for January 1 is expected to increase regional security and stability and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. Both countries underlined the effective mechanism of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum in promoting regional economic integration and pledged to strengthen coordination and cooperation under the framework of the APEC to jointly promote economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region. The two leaders pledged further in-depth cooperation and joint efforts to contribute proposals within the framework of the 4th summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
