(VOV) - A senior Vietnamese Party official has urged the US to remove trade barriers and recognize Vietnam’s economic market status. Vuong Dinh Hue, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Economic Commission made the proposal while receiving Caroline Atkinson, Deputy Assistant to US President and Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics, in Hanoi on Monday. Hue asked the US to grant the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and promote the implementation of the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) between the two countries to help boost a comprehensive partnership, particularly in economics. He also requested the US support Vietnam in negotiating the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement. Hue said the US needs to show financial flexibility in line with individual country’s development levels, especially when accessing garment and footwear markets so as to reach a more balanced agreement. He expressed his hope that Atkinson will attempt to remove difficulties facing trade, investment and economic links between the two countries.
