(VOVworld) – Vietnam will support Laos in its position of ASEAN Presidency in 2016. Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Vietnam-Laos cooperative sub-committee Nguyen Xuan Phuc said while meeting with Laos Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavath on Sunday in Hanoi.

The two leaders evaluated bilateral cooperation from 2011 to 2015 and discussed measures to successfully implement cooperative agreement from 2016 to 2020 to prepare for a report to be presented at the annual meeting of the two Politburos and the 38^th meeting of Vietnam-Laos Inter-governmental Committee. The two leaders agreed to enhance political relations, exchange delegations, and closely cooperate at regional and international forums. They agreed on further cooperation at multi-lateral frameworks especially as the ASEAN Community will be established by the end of this year.

The two sides agreed to foster cooperation in national defense and security to ensure political stability and social order, implement major projects in Vietnam-Laos border areas, and prevent cross-border drug trafficking.
