The project, covering 12 provinces, has been piloted in five locations. According to Le Thanh Tung, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the Vietnam Rice Sector Association (VIETRISA), the initiative is crucial for national food security and sustainable agriculture in the region.
"By applying this model, we can cut seed use by 50%, reduce nitrogen fertilizer and pesticides by 30%, minimize crop loss, and lower carbon emissions by 5-6 tons per hectare per season. At the same time, farmers’ profits increase by 5 million VND per hectare," said Tung.
The project aims to restructure the rice production, boost added value, and implement climate-resilient, low-emission farming practices. It also focuses on developing a low-carbon rice market, enhancing branding, and expanding international reach for Vietnam’s sustainable rice products.
