Bauhinia flower festival adorns northwestern mountains

(VOVWORLD) -The Ban (Bauhinia) Flower Festival and the cultural, sports and tourism festival of ethnic groups opened Friday evening at Dien Bien provincial stadium aiming to boost local tourism and socio-economic development.

The opening ceremony began with the 90-minute art program "Dien Bien-Bright Ban Colors", harmoniously mixing tradition and modernity, depicting the culture and indomitable spirit of local people.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long said at the ceremony that Dien Bien province has great tourism potential, because of its historical heritage and also its unique national cultural identity. He called on Dien Bien to continue to effectively tap these advantages and promote green and sustainable tourism, attracting domestic and foreign visitors.

“The province improves tourism’s quality and efficiency, enhances cultural exchanges between the ethnic communities in the region as well as in the whole country. Mobilize all resources and encourage the participation of businesses and investors in the service sector and infrastructure development,” said Deputy PM Long. 

Held for 10 times, the Ban Flower Festival is affirming its position as a signature cultural-tourism event, not only of Dien Bien province but also of the northwest region and Vietnam.
