Pursued by the US government and currently stuck in Russia, former NSA contractor Edward Snowden continues to leak information about the controversial US surveillance program. Germany’s weekly newspaper “Der Spiegel” on Sunday quoted Snowden as saying that the NSA Internet intelligence program involved many Western countries which are now strongly protesting the program. According to Der Spiegel, an office called the “Foreign Relations Committee” of the NSA was in charge of coordinating the NSA’s surveillance intelligence agencies in European countries. The process was conducted carefully and secretly in a manner that protected leaders from “global privacy violations” in case it was detected. Many EU member countries have criticized the US for installing eavesdropping devices inside EU offices in the US and in Brussels. Martin Schulz, chairman of the European Parliament says the US’s spying on its allies exceeds permissible limits.
