Environmental pollution costs Vietnam 800 million USD in heath care each year

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam needs to develop eco-friendly technology, conserve energy and natural resources; and restore the ecosystem, experts said discussing the negative impact environmental pollution and climate change are having on Vietnam’s economy.

Reports show that damage due to environmental pollution accounts for 3% of GDP and Vietnam spends 800 million USD each year on public healthcare related to environmental pollution.

Nguyen The Dong, Deputy Director General of Vietnam Environment Administration, said: "First, we need to review policies on environment management. Then, we need to identify the cause of pollution and develop suitable solutions. It’s also essential to increase communications to raise public awareness of the need to protect the environment."
