EU appoints senior representative in charge of security and foreign policy
(VOVWORLD) -The European Council has appointed Mr. Josep Borrell Fontelles of Spain Vice President of the European Commission (EC) and Senior Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union (EU).
The new EC President, Ursula von der Leyen, approved the appointment in July. If approved by the European Parliament, Mr. Borrel will serve as the EU Senior Representative in charge of foreign policy and security, replacing Ms Federica Mogherini, with a term from November this year to October 2024.
