France's President announces tax cuts, wage increase

(VOVWORLD) - French President Emmanuel Macron announced a raise in France’s minimum wage and tax relief measures during an address to the nation Monday.

Macron said he would be raising the minimum wage in France by 100 euros a month, beginning in 2019. He announced that the rise in the CSG indirect tax would be cancelled for pensioners receiving less than 2,000 euros a month. Income from overtime work would also not be taxed, he added. President Macron said he accepts his share of responsibility for the anger of his citizens, but condemned violence by "yellow jacket" protesters and said it will not be tolerated.
