(VOVworld)- French newspapers on Friday quoted Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s interview with Reuters as saying that Vietnam is considering to take legal actions against China’s illegal placement of its oil rig in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone.  A correspondent of the World newspaper in Southeast Asia Bruno Philip quoted Prime Minister as saying that Vietnam is considering self-defence options, including legal actions, in accordance with international law, to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity. In regard to Vietnam’s viewpoints, Bruno Philip also quoted Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung as saying that “Vietnam will resolutely defend its sovereignty and legitimate interests because territorial sovereignty, including sovereignty of marine areas and islands, is sacred”.

In its news bulletin, Reuters covered Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s message which said Vietnam wants a peaceful solution to the territorial sovereignty dispute with China. The newspaper analyzed the fact that the Philippines was the first country that filed a case with China at the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague, demanding China abide by the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. According to the newspaper, China refused to join the case and threatened that the case would undermine the two countries’ relations. The newspaper said though the Permanent Court of Arbitration can't force involving parties to respect and realize its decision, an favorable judgement for China would encourage other countries to take similar actions and increase pressures on China.
