They issued a resolution on June 30th, saying that China’s putting pressure on its neighbours to achieve its ambition is totally unacceptable. The resolution, which was sent to the European Union, was the common voice of friendship associations from France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, the UK, Denmark, the Swedish Solidarity Committee for Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia and the Italian Institute for Vietnam Studies. The associations said sovereignty and territorial issues relating to Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos cannot be resolved by provocative, violent, and unilateral actions. China has tried to impose its own will on neighboring countries and its actions are unacceptable, because they violated international law. China also broke its pledges with the ASEAN, especially the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
Vietnam Friendship Associations in Europe urged China to immediately withdraw its oil rig Hai Yang 981 and escort vessels from Vietnam’s Exclusive Economic Zone, change its conduct to pave the way for co-operation and an appropriate solution to the issue.
