G20 Summit: Vietnam ramps up relations with countries, international organizations

(VOVWORLD) -Within the framework of the G20 Summit in Brazil, on Tuesday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had seven bilateral meetings with leaders of countries and international organizations, including Spain, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Paraguay, Singapore, Canada, Vatican, and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister Chinh proposed that the two sides increase the exchange of delegations at all levels and soon sign the Joint Action Program between the two Governments for the new period. He expressed his hope that Spain will urge the remaining European Union countries to soon ratify the Investment Protection Agreement with Vietnam (EVIPA), and ask the European Commission (EC) to soon remove IUU yellow card imposed on Vietnamese seafood. The Prime Minister called on Spain to boost cooperation with Vietnam in transport infrastructure, renewable energy, science and technology, and agriculture.

At the meeting between the Vietnamese Prime Minister and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the two sides agreed to promote cooperation in maritime connectivity, tourism, aviation, labor and many other potential fields. Prime Minister Chinh affirmed that Vietnam is ready to become a strategic supplier of Halal products, contributing to ensuring food security for the UAE. For his part, the UAE leader said that the UAE will actively support and share experiences with Vietnam in building an international financial center and connect innovation centers of the two countries.

Talking with Paraguay President Santiago Pena, Prime Minister Chinh suggested that the two sides expand economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges; promote negotiations on cooperation agreements between the two countries. He asked Paraguay to continue supporting the completion of the internal assessment process of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) to soon sign the Vietnam-MERCOSUR Free Trade Agreement.

At the meeting between Prime Minister Chinh and Singapore Prime Minister Laurence Wong, the two leaders discussed upgrading the diplomatic relations framework; building new generation Vietnam-Singapore industrial parks (VSIP) in a green and digital direction; strengthening infrastructure, logistics, and digital connections between the two economies; jointly developing clean energy systems, renewable energy, and the formation of power networks in ASEAN; sharing experiences in building an international financial center.

Meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, the two leaders agreed to implement measures to deepen the Vietnam-Canada Comprehensive Partnership, thereby strengthening bilateral relations, especially exchanging delegations at all levels, developing economic, trade, and investment cooperation, ODA cooperation, and training peacekeeping forces. They stressed the need to take more advantage of the strengths of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) of which the two countries are members.

At the meeting with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, Prime Minister Chinh highly appreciated the good feelings of Pope Francis and Cardinal Pietro Parolin for Vietnam and invited the Vatican Secretary of State to soon visit Vietnam.

Talking with WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Prime Minister Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing cooperation with WHO to ensure public health. The Director General of WHO applauded Vietnam's policies and efforts in responding to the epidemic and hoped that Vietnam would actively support the international community's early adoption of a global agreement on disease prevention and response.
