The world recorded 821,000 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, with India, Brazil, Turkey, the US, and France remain the worst-hit countries.
Tuesday was the seventh consecutive day India recorded 200,000 new cases per day and was the day with the highest number of new infections ever. India recorded 1,757 deaths, bringing the total number of deaths caused by COVID-19 in this country to 180,550 cases.
South Korea recorded 731 new cases, 692 of which are community cases. Four more people have died from the pandemic, bringing the total number of deaths there to 1,806. South Korea has extended current domestic restrictions through at least May 2.
France is Europe's worst-hit country by the pandemic, followed by Russia, the UK, Italy, Spain, and Germany.
