Global economy performing better than expected: IMF chief
(VOVWORLD) - The global economy is holding up better than expected despite ongoing uncertainties and a weak medium-term growth outlook, said head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva on Thursday.

At a press conference in Washington DC, the IMF Managing Director said the world economy is performing “better than feared, but worse than needed,” with global growth projected to be about 3% over the medium term, propped up by better-than-expected conditions in the United States and certain emerging markets and developing countries.
She warned, however, that the full effect of the US tariffs is still to unfold, and the resilience of the world economy has yet to be fully tested. She also expressed concern that public debt is rising faster in advanced economies than in low-income countries and urged countries to take action.
