(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has praised the efforts and achievements of the northern province of Ha Giang in economic development and poverty reduction despite its low starting point and geographical disadvantage. Meeting with provincial authorities in Hanoi on Monday, Dung urged Ha Giang to focus investment in sectors and projects essential for sustainable socio-economic development. He also suggested that the province should pay greater attention to improving people’s lives both materially and spiritually through sustainable poverty reduction measures associated with new rural area programs. Additionally local authorities should boost trade with China’s border provinces in the spirit of cooperation, friendship and mutual benefit to safeguard national sovereignty.

Participants at the working session also discussed removing challenges facing border districts; funding water reservoirs, transport, and irrigation works; and completing infrastructure facilities for border markets.
